Grandparents as Parents
In Census 2000, nearly 4,000 grandparents were identified with legal responsibility to raise their grandchildren. Numerous issues confront these grandparents who have become “parents again”, including legal, medical, educational, financial and psycho-social concerns. The GAP Caregiver Support Group & Resource Center offers volunteer support, peer counseling, and educational programs to assist grandparents as parents to successfully address these issues.
